The Esoteric Order of Azathoth (E.O.A.) affirms the following as her normative expression of Lovecraftian spirituality and cosmology:

Howard Philips Lovecraft (1890-1937) was an inspired prophet and revelator who, receiving cosmic visions and occult knowledge through his dreams, brought forth to us the truth of our existence in Azathoth and the recognition of the Old Ones.


Our universe which we can perceive is but the dream of Azathoth, the “Blind Idiot God” beyond space and time, sleeping Ground of our Being. 

The Old Ones are the children of Azathoth, densities of consciousness from within His supernal existence. As They exist from Their progenitor in the same supernal dimension the Old Ones are easily able to travel within the dreams of Their Father and interact with the ephemeral figments therein — even condescending, for purposes or motives unknown, to descend to this dimension and our planet in some small form. 

In this passing moment of Their Father’s dreams the Old Ones took Forms, and these awesome and terrible forms had dominion over all the universe from Their seat on what is now Earth. Ages upon endless ages ago a race of figments in Their domain, realising the true nature of their existence, used that knowledge to master the secrets of the Old Ones’ extra-dimensional travel and contend against Them. 

This race, the Yith, prevailed in their struggle — trapping fragments of some of the Old Ones’ vast consciousness in this dimension’s reality, on our Earth, before cutting a seam in the stars and escaping from their existence in Azathoth; taking refuge in a realm where even the Old Ones, who exist in the spaces between spaces, could not find reach. This tear misaligned the stars of our universe and cast them askew, becoming poisonous to the Old Ones’ consciousnesses trapped on Earth and rendering Their prison unending. 

As the Old Ones’ forms upon the Earth, although unfathomable and terrible, are merely portions of Their true existence with Azathoth in His dimension outside our perceived reality, They must out of necessity employ some figments in this world to do the Work of ushering the stars right again — persons to whom the call is extended and who respond to Their need: to free Them to ascend and unify with Their true forms of existence.

To die is to pass into unconscious nonexistence, as a person in a dream will disappear from the semblance of their existence as soon as something else is dreamt. This state of nonexistence is the void, the transition from form and being as we understand it to simply being within Azathoth, as those in the dream return from form to formless potential within the dreamer; perhaps to come again or to never again experience the fleeting span of ephemeral creation. The ultimate goal of them that propitiate the Old Ones is to release those of Their kind who are imprisoned by coercing the stars come right again, unifying those fragments with Their True Forms; that They may exact Their righteous vengeance upon this world of shadow by waking Their Father from His slumber, causing our existence — Their poisoned prison — to be snuffed out as we become cleansed and totally One with and within the risen Daemon Sultan, forever terrible and glorious.
